Groundbreaking Changes Proposed in Waqf Boards Law

A new bill aims to amend the existing Waqf Act of 1995 by proposing major reforms, including a broader representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims. It also seeks to rename the Act to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 1995. The bill would also streamline the registration of Waqfs via a central database.

A new bill proposing comprehensive amendments to the existing Waqf Act of 1995 is set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha. Key changes include broadening the representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims on Waqf boards.

The bill, named the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 1995, aims to streamline the registration of Waqfs through a central portal.

Additionally, it proposes the inclusion of a more diverse composition of the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf Boards. Representing various Muslim communities, such as Shias, Sunnis, Bohras, and Aghakhanis, is also a significant aspect of the draft law.
