Kyiv Intensifies Aerial Assaults Amid Kursk Tensions

Ukraine stepped up its air offensive on Russia's Kursk border region, with Russian defence systems reportedly downing four drones overnight. This follows a substantial ground incursion by Ukrainian forces, described as one of the largest into Russian territory in the two-year conflict. Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of Kursk, stated that the situation is 'controllable'.

Emergency services in Kursk are on high alert, with calls for blood donations to replenish medical supplies. Over the past 24 hours, the region faced multiple air raid alerts. On Tuesday, fighting led to the deaths of five people, including two ambulance crew, and injured at least 20 others, among them six children. Official Russian accounts noted that Ukrainian fighters, supported by tanks, attack Kursk's border units in two locations.

The border town of Sudzha also came under assault, with a Ukrainian drone striking an ambulance, resulting in two fatalities and injuring a doctor. Despite the heightened tensions, the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant remains operational without incident. Ukraine has not officially commented on the offensive, while both Kyiv and Moscow reiterate that civilian targets are not being aimed at.
