A court in Moscow has upheld the decision to arrest in absentia Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of late Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, state news agency RIA reported on Wednesday.

Navalnaya, who resides outside of Russia, has been accused of participating in an 'extremist' group and was arrested for two months by a Moscow court in July. This means she would be detained if she set foot on Russian soil.

The court's decision reinforces the Russian government's stance on individuals associated with opposition movements, increasingly labeling them as extremists to justify legal actions.
