China Challenges EU's EV Import Measures: A WTO Showdown

China has contested the European Union's preliminary ruling on imported electric vehicles, claiming it lacks factual and legal basis and violates World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules. China is using WTO's dispute settlement mechanisms to address the EU's provisional duties on Chinese EVs and reserves the right to take further legal action.

The European Union's preliminary ruling on imported electric vehicles lacks both factual and legal basis and seriously violates World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, according to China's commerce ministry on Friday.

In response, China has turned to the WTO's dispute settlement mechanisms to contest the EU's temporary countervailing measures on EVs, a ministry spokesperson announced in a statement.

Chinese state media reported that the ministry reserves the right to file further lawsuits concerning the EU's plan to impose provisional duties on imported Chinese electric vehicles.
