French police arrested Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed Elsayed in the early hours of Friday on suspicion of sexual assault outside a Paris cafe, the Paris prosecutor's office reported.
Elsayed, who earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, was detained for allegedly touching another customer's buttocks. An investigation has been launched, and police confirm his identity via the Egyptian delegation.
Egypt's Olympic Committee stated that Elsayed would face a disciplinary hearing and could face severe sanctions, including lifetime exclusion from competition if the allegations are confirmed. The committee noted that Elsayed had failed to return to mission headquarters after the incident and turned off his phone.
