Supreme Court Presses Centre on Timely Judicial Appointments

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that steps are being taken to expedite the appointment of judges recommended by the Collegium. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and other justices are reviewing a plea for a fixed timeline for these appointments. Attorney General R Venkataramani highlighted ongoing progress and expressed concerns over multiple petitions on the matter.

The Centre on Friday assured the Supreme Court of ongoing efforts to expedite the appointment of judges recommended by the Collegium.

A bench including Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, reviewed a plea advocating for a time-bound appointment process for the higher judiciary.

Attorney General R Venkataramani conveyed that the matter is progressing well, though he voiced concerns about the frequency of petitions regarding the issue. The proceeding was deferred to the next week.
