NIA Charge Sheets Five for Supporting Maoist Activities in Chhattisgarh

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against five men for their involvement in aiding the banned CPI (Maoist) in Chhattisgarh. The accused, named in the charge sheet, are charged under the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their logistical support to the Maoist outfit.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially charge-sheeted five individuals for their active participation in providing logistics and other forms of support to the proscribed CPI (Maoist) group in Chhattisgarh, according to an announcement made on Friday.

The charge sheet, which was filed before the NIA special court in Jagdalpur on Thursday, identified the accused as Vikesh alias Vicky Goyal, Balram Tamo, Sumit Dixit alias Chhotu, Rajesham Pogula, and Mallesh. All men, residents of Chhattisgarh, face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case was initially registered by the Geedam police in Dantewada district in June 2023 after Rs 1,06,335 in cash and several incriminating items were recovered from CPI (Maoist) members. NIA investigations later unveiled that the accused were actively involved in the terror outfit's logistics and the handling of its demonetized currency, enhancing the group's anti-national operations. Further, Mallesh was discovered to be an active member and military commander of platoon no. 16 of the divisional committee of CPI (Maoist).
