Kolkata Police Commissioner Promises Maximum Punishment for Doctor's Murder Accused

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal on Saturday assured that the force will ensure the accused in the sexual assault and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor receives the highest punishment if found guilty.
The woman's body was discovered in the seminar hall of a government-run hospital in north Kolkata on Friday. Preliminary autopsy results have confirmed sexual abuse prior to her death.
Goyal emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting that the accused was apprehended based on circumstantial evidence, including witness accounts from other doctors on night duty. An SIT has been formed, and the accused will be presented in court today.
Goyal confirmed that the autopsy was recorded on video, with the victim's family present. He underscored the accused's high level of criminality and assured a transparent investigation, adding that the family could request a probe by another agency if desired. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
