Ukrainian Offensive in Kursk Intensifies, Leading to Civilian Evacuations

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy acknowledged on Saturday for the first time that Ukrainian forces are fighting in a surprise offensive in Russia's Kursk region, as attacks on the border area persist and authorities rush to evacuate civilians.

Moscow's forces are in their sixth day of fierce battles against Kyiv's largest incursion into Russian territory since the war began, leaving southwestern Russia vulnerable until reinforcements started arriving.

In response to the critical situation, Russia imposed a sweeping security regime in three border regions on Saturday. Meanwhile, Belarus, an ally of Moscow, has sent additional troops to its border with Ukraine, accusing Kyiv of airspace violations.
