An 18-year-old, identified as Arda K., randomly stabbed five individuals at an open-air cafe in northwest Turkiye, according to officials and media reports on Tuesday.
The teenager broadcasted Monday's knife attack live on social media, using a camera attached to his bulletproof vest, HaberTurk television reported. The victims were people unwinding after prayers at a mosque in Eskisehir, about 230 kilometers west of Ankara.
Following a police pursuit, the suspect was detained, as confirmed by the Eskisehir governor's office. The five injured victims were hospitalized, with two in serious condition, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency. Additionally, the assailant carried an ax that he did not use.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that an investigation has commenced. HaberTurk and other media outlets suggested that the suspect might have been influenced by a video game.
