Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Leicester Square Attack

Ioan Pintaru, 32, has been charged with the attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl in London’s Leicester Square. The girl was stabbed eight times in a random attack. Pintaru also faces charges for possessing a bladed article. He appeared in court briefly and was remanded in custody.

On Tuesday, a 32-year-old man faced court charges for the attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl in Leicester Square, London, in what prosecutors termed a 'random attack.'

Identified as Ioan Pintaru, the accused also faces charges of possessing a bladed article after the girl was stabbed eight times in the central London tourist hotspot. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the girl sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Initially, it was thought the girl's mother was also injured, but police revealed the confusion arose from the daughter's blood. Pintaru appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth, and was remanded in custody. His next hearing at the Old Bailey is scheduled for Sept. 10.
