West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has issued a directive to enhance security measures for female students and staff in state universities, following the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor. Sources from Raj Bhavan confirmed the governor's immediate action.
The directive was given during a virtual meeting attended by approximately 30 vice-chancellors. During the meeting, Governor Bose expressed his dissatisfaction with the Kolkata Police's management of the case and described the occurrence as a 'crime against humanity.' He emphasized the urgent need for increased security for women on university campuses.
In response to the incident, an emergency meeting with the vice-chancellors was convened where Bose insisted on immediate protective measures. Additionally, the Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, amid ongoing protests by junior doctors that have severely disrupted healthcare services across the state.
