In response to the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has asked vice-chancellors of state universities to strengthen security measures within their campuses. A source from Raj Bhavan confirmed the directive.

During a virtual meeting attended by around 30 vice-chancellors, Governor Bose emphasized the need for heightened security, particularly for female students and staff. He criticized the Kolkata Police for their handling of the case and directed immediate action to ensure safety.

The Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation from Kolkata Police to the CBI, as protests by junior doctors have severely disrupted state healthcare services. This follows the discovery of the doctor's body at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which led to the arrest of a civic volunteer.
