CBI Takes Over Kolkata Doctor's Murder Case Probe

A senior team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrived in Kolkata to investigate the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital. The Calcutta High Court had ordered the case be transferred from Kolkata Police to CBI. The CBI is pursuing the matter vigorously.

In a significant development, a team of senior officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday morning to take over the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital in West Bengal.

According to sources within the central agency, the team, which includes both medical and forensic experts, will visit the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's seminar hall, where the body of the trainee doctor was discovered on August 9. The transfer of the case to the CBI was ordered by the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday.

Sources from the CBI revealed that an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been filed in New Delhi in connection with the case. The agency plans to review the call details of the deceased and individuals on duty that day. Further, the CBI may take Sanjay Roy, previously arrested by Kolkata Police, into custody. The court has directed the city police to hand over all investigation documents to the CBI promptly.
