Arsonists set fire to a house belonging to a Hindu family without political ties in northwest Bangladesh, escalating a series of targeted attacks on the minority community. The incident occurred Tuesday evening in Farabari Mandirpara village, hours after interim Chief Advisor Yunus Muhammad promised to prosecute the attackers.
Local residents quickly contained the blaze, and all occupants escaped unharmed, according to Subrata Kumar Barman, chairman of Akcha Union Parishad. This arson follows similar acts of violence against Hindus in the region after the Sheikh Hasina government fell on August 5.
The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance reported threats and attacks on Hindus across 278 locations since Hasina's ouster. Police are investigating the Farabari incident, as fear grips the Hindu community in Thakurgaon district. Yunus's latest visit to Dhakeshwari temple aimed to assure the community of their safety amid the ongoing violence.
