Mystery Surrounds Sinaloa Cartel Arrests and Missing Bodyguards

Mexican prosecutors are probing the disappearance of two bodyguards following the U.S. arrest of Sinaloa Cartel co-founder Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman's son. The incident, described as an ambush, has sparked tensions between Mexico and the U.S. over transparency in handling cartel arrests.

The disappearance of two bodyguards coinciding with the dramatic U.S. arrest of Sinaloa Cartel co-founder Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and the son of Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman is currently under investigation by Mexican prosecutors. Zambada, who claims to have been ambushed and kidnapped by Guzman's son and armed men, was later arrested alongside Guzman Lopez in the United States.

A letter from Zambada's lawyer revealed that the drug lord was accompanied by Jose Heras, Sinaloa state's judicial police head, and Rodolfo Chaidez, a long-time security team member. Both men are now missing, according to Sinaloa state prosecutor Sara Quinonez. Heras, who had been on vacation, faces arrest if found alive.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has called for full transparency and investigation into the arrests, highlighting tensions with the U.S. on cartel crackdown strategies. Despite the arrests, Lopez Obrador stated that drug trafficking and fentanyl consumption in the U.S. will persist.
