The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has condemned the recent vandalism at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, where doctors have been protesting against the alleged rape and murder of a woman medic. The IMA called for an emergency meeting with its state branches to discuss the future course of action.
Unidentified miscreants vandalized sections of the hospital amid midnight protests by women across West Bengal. The hospital has been a focal point since the alleged crime occurred, leading to a CBI investigation. Despite this, authorities have failed to maintain law and order, according to the IMA.
The police reported that nearly 40 people entered the hospital premises, damaging property and attacking police personnel. The incident has raised concerns about the loss of crucial evidence. A civic volunteer was arrested in connection with the crime, and the Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation to the CBI.
