On the 78th Independence Day, Director General of Delhi Prisons Satish Golcha announced the grant of remission to more than 1,160 convicts. The announcement, made at the Tihar prison complex, marked a significant move to reward inmates based on their conduct during incarceration.
In a bid to enhance prison safety, Golcha also revealed the installation of 1,248 additional face recognition system-fitted CCTV cameras across various prison facilities. This initiative aims to bolster the security infrastructure and ensure the safety of inmates and staff within the prisons.
Emphasizing the importance of correctional philosophy, Golcha outlined ongoing education and skill development programs. He noted the department's collaboration with numerous organizations, including Max Healthcare Facilities, Primero, and the Union Ministry of Tourism, to provide vocational training and enhance rehabilitation efforts. Health screenings for HIV, Hepatitis B, and syphilis were also conducted for over 10,573 prisoners, indicating a strong focus on inmate health and well-being.
