China Calls for Regional Support in Myanmar's Peace Efforts
China has urged neighboring countries to aid Myanmar in its peace and reconciliation process during a meeting with counterparts from Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for regional cooperation to foster economic and social stability in the conflict-ridden country.
China has called on neighboring countries to assist war-torn Myanmar in advancing its peace and reconciliation process. The appeal was made during a meeting held on Friday between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterparts from Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.
Highlighting the 'worrying' situation in Myanmar, Wang Yi urged regional cooperation to help the country build economic and social conditions conducive to lasting peace. Speaking at a news conference in Thailand earlier, Wang reiterated China's support for a democratic transition in Myanmar and a regional plan to resolve the ongoing crisis.
Wang noted that neighboring countries, sharing similar circumstances, have a deeper understanding of Myanmar's issues. Myanmar has been unstable since a military coup in February 2021 ousted its elected civilian government, halting its progress towards democracy.
'No one wants Myanmar to restore stability and development more than its neighbors,' Wang asserted.
