The Calcutta High Court has chastised state authorities, describing the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College as an 'absolute failure of state machinery.' This comes after the doctor's parents accused several interns and physicians of involvement in her alleged rape and murder.
Kolkata Police arrested 25 individuals linked to the vandalism on August 15. Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal admitted to being unprepared for the early morning violence, despite adequate security.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led a protest march, blaming opposition parties CPI(M) and BJP for orchestrating the vandalism to obscure the truth behind the doctor’s death. Meanwhile, a CBI investigation is ongoing.
