The Bombay High Court has strongly criticized the Maharashtra government for its failure to operationalize the state advisory board, which is essential for framing policies under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
Last month, Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar directed the government to expedite the board’s formation and finalize the non-official members' names. Despite a meeting on August 13, the officials have yet to finalize these names.
This inaction prompted an irritated response from the bench, questioning the government’s commitment to complying with court orders. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 20 as they continue to press for compliance.
