Timothy Wayne Goodman, the man accused of fatally shooting a southwest Virginia sheriff's deputy and injuring another, has passed away in a Tennessee hospital, as announced by local prosecutors.

The 65-year-old North Carolina resident died early Friday morning at Johnson City Medical Centre, according to Smyth County Commonwealth's Attorney Phillip Blevins. Goodman faced multiple charges, including aggravated murder and attempted murder related to the August 9 incident involving Deputy Hunter Reedy.

Goodman was hospitalized after being shot by officers during an altercation. The tragic event, stemming from a traffic stop, concluded with Goodman's death. Authorities and the community continue their support for Deputy Reedy's family and fellow officers.
