Kolkata Police has enacted prohibitory orders in the vicinity of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from Sunday until August 24. The orders, which ban meetings and assemblies of over five people, were issued after the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the medical facility.
Section 163 (2) of the BNSS has been enforced around the hospital, extending to the Shyambazar five-point crossing. The aim is to maintain order and public safety in the area. Offenders will face punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, according to the issued statement.
The hospital has turned into a focal point of public agitation and concern, necessitating stringent measures to prevent any disruptions or unrest. The police urge the public to adhere to these orders to ensure collective safety and order.
