Reliance Group's ADAVPL Seeks Immediate Halt on Brand Usage by IIHL

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Ventures Pvt Ltd (ADAVPL), a Reliance Group company, has filed an application with the NCLT to stop the use of the 'Reliance' brand by IIHL after the resolution plan is implemented. ADAVPL argues that the brand agreement does not make the brand an asset of Reliance Capital (RCAP).

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Ventures Pvt Ltd (ADAVPL), a Reliance Group company, has approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking an immediate halt to the use of the 'Reliance' brand by the successful resolution applicant, IIHL, for Reliance Capital (RCAP).

While the NCLT had approved IIHL's resolution plan on February 27, granting use of the 'Reliance' brand for three years, ADAVPL contends that the Brand Agreement only allows permissive use and does not create any interest in the brand.

ADAVPL also submitted that the brand is co-owned by Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani and thus cannot be used by other entities. The company was not included as a party in the resolution plan and argues it should have been heard on this matter.
