Two First Information Reports (FIRs) were lodged against religious leader Ramgiri Maharaj on Monday in Mumbai over his purportedly objectionable remarks about Prophet Mohammad and Islam, a police official confirmed.

The FIRs fall under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) and Section 299 (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs). The complaints were registered at Bandra and Nirmal Nagar police stations by a garment trader and an auto driver, respectively.

Authorities noted that multiple FIRs have already been logged against the Hindu seer across various locations in Maharashtra, including at Mahim and Pydhonie police stations in Mumbai. The disputed comments, made during a religious event in Shah Panchale village, Sinnar taluka, Nashik district, went viral on social media, prompting protests. Maharaj has since defended his remarks, stating they addressed atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
