The Israeli military announced it has recovered the bodies of six hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack that ignited the Gaza war.
According to a Tuesday statement, Israeli forces conducted an overnight operation in southern Gaza to recover the remains. Identified as Yagev Buchshtab, Alexander Dancyg, Avraham Munder, Yoram Metzger, Nadav Popplewell, and Haim Perry, the military did not specify how or when these individuals died.
The recovery comes amidst U.S., Egyptian, and Qatari efforts to mediate a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, which would involve the release of numerous hostages still held by the militant group. Israeli authorities estimate that Hamas is currently detaining about 110 hostages, with around a third presumed dead.
