U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Egypt on Tuesday to advocate for progress on a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's acceptance of a U.S. bridging proposal. Talks, expected later this week, aim to address major disputes that remain unresolved.

In Tel Aviv, Blinken discussed the proposal with Netanyahu, urging Hamas to consider it as a basis for further dialogue. Although Hamas has not definitively rejected the proposal, it accused Israel and the U.S. of insincerity, alleging the proposal deviates from previously agreed terms.

Blinken met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, whose country has been mediating the Gaza talks. The negotiations focus on the situation in Gaza, where more than 40,000 people have been killed since October, and the fate of the remaining hostages. Disputes include Israel's military presence and prisoner exchange terms.
