India Urges Japan to Remove Regulatory Hurdles in Tech Sharing

India on Tuesday urged Japan to eliminate regulatory barriers impeding the sharing of critical technologies. Both countries, united in their goal for a free Indo-Pacific, pledged to craft a new security cooperation framework.

The third '2+2' ministerial dialogue saw External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh representing India, while Japan was represented by Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Defence Minister Kihara Minoru. Both sides lauded the progress in Unmanned Ground Vehicle/Robotics projects and the transfer of the Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN) technology.

Jaishankar emphasized the need for trust-based collaboration in emerging technologies, especially in defence, and called for removing current regulatory bottlenecks. Ministers unanimously condemned terrorism, calling for actions against UN-listed terrorist groups. The dialogue has set the stage for a robust agenda of bilateral cooperation.
