The Election Commission of India (EC) has intervened to ensure a level-playing field in the upcoming Haryana assembly polls by halting the announcement of ongoing recruitment results for police constables and teachers. Authorities in Haryana have been instructed to defer these results until the election process concludes.

The single-phase assembly election in Haryana is scheduled for October 1, with results being announced on October 4. The EC’s Model Code of Conduct (MCC) allows regular recruitment processes by statutory bodies to continue but requires prior clearance for recruitments through non-statutory bodies.

After reviewing the complaint from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and the relevant state government reports, the EC found no violations of the MCC. However, to maintain fairness, it has instructed that the results for the posts concerned will not be disclosed until the elections are completed. The initial recruitments were announced on the day elections were declared, August 16, but were found to be in order as they were commenced beforehand.
