Islamic State Claims Deadly Attack at Solingen Festival

A knife attack at a festival in Solingen, Germany, claimed by the Islamic State, resulted in three deaths and eight injuries. Police have detained a 15-year-old suspect with knowledge of the attack but have not captured the perpetrator. Authorities continue to investigate, suspecting terrorism as a possible motive.

The Islamic State group Saturday claimed responsibility for a knife attack in Solingen, Germany, killing three people and wounding eight more, including at a crowded festival celebrating the city's 650th anniversary.

According to its Amaq news site, the group said the attacker targeted Christians as a “soldier of the Islamic State” seeking to “avenge Muslims in Palestine and everywhere”.

Authorities continue to investigate, with special police forces raiding a nearby asylum seeker's home. Police have detained a 15-year-old boy suspected of knowing about the planned attack.

Markus Caspers of the public prosecutor's office stated that while the motive remains unclear, terrorism has not been ruled out. Authorities have increased police presence at major events until the perpetrator is apprehended.
