Azam Khan Acquitted in 2019 Poll Code Violation Case

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was acquitted by an MP-MLA court on Wednesday in a 2019 poll code violation case, according to his lawyer.

The former Uttar Pradesh minister was accused of reaching a polling station in his vehicle during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, a violation of the ban on vehicles within 200 meters of a polling station.

Khan's lawyer, Mohammad Mursaleen, said the then SDM P P Tiwari had lodged an FIR against Khan, alleging he brought his car to the voting campus. However, five witnesses appeared during the trial, and the prosecution failed to prove the allegations. The court acquitted Khan, deeming it a false case.

Khan, who faces multiple charges, is currently in Sitapur jail.
