The Congress on Thursday organized a rally in Kolkata to protest the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in a state-run hospital earlier this month.
Several civil society organizations also took to the streets, demanding justice and urging stronger safety measures for women. The primary rally, led by state party president Adhir Chowdhary, commenced from College Square and moved towards Shyambazar five-point crossing in north Kolkata, near RG Kar Hospital where the incident occurred on August 9.
In another significant demonstration named 'Angikar Jatra' or 'Pledge Journey,' hundreds of women marched across Kolkata, carrying placards and banners calling for stringent actions against the perpetrators. The protests have been ongoing since August 10, reflecting widespread outrage and demands for justice.
