Two men have been apprehended by police for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old tribal girl in Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, officials confirmed on Friday.
The incident, which took place on Independence Day at Pacher village under Khargapur police station's jurisdiction, came to the public's attention when the victim's family informed in-charge minister Krishna Gaur during his visit on Thursday.
Authorities have charged Salim Khan and Lalu Khan under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Tikamgarh Superintendent of Police Rohit Kashwani stated.
The girl, who was working in the fields on August 15, was taken to another location by the accused, where the assault occurred. Threatened into silence, she fell ill days later and disclosed the crime to her family. An internal investigation is underway to understand the delay in reporting the incident and ascertain any police negligence, Kashwani added.
