Unidentified miscreants set ablaze the ancestral residence of Manipur BJP spokesperson Michael Lamjathang in Churachandpur district on Saturday, police reported.

A car parked in the compound of the house at Peniel village in Tuibong sub-division was also torched during the incident.

This is the third time the house has come under attack. Churachandpur district Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S has directed the district Superintendent of Police to conduct an immediate enquiry and submit a report at the earliest. Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the repeated targeting, calling it a deeply troubling trend.

Thadou, one of the largest sub-tribes of Kukis, have often been targeted under the guise of peace rallies, Singh noted in an X post.

''Such acts of provocation will not be tolerated,'' emphasized the chief minister, promising that those responsible will be held accountable and that action will be taken against officials who failed to provide adequate security despite prior warnings.
