Massive Drug Bust: Nine Arrested, Ganja Worth Rs 2.87 Crore Seized

In a major anti-narcotics operation in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, police arrested nine individuals and confiscated 553.6 kg of ganja valued at Rs 2.87 crore. The operation was executed by the Thane Crime Branch based on a tip-off. The contraband, sourced from Odisha, was found in a tempo with a fake registration plate.

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Thane's Bhiwandi town have apprehended nine suspects and confiscated ganja worth Rs 2.87 crore. The announcement was made by an official on Tuesday.

The operation, spearheaded by the Crime Branch Unit 2 of Thane police, was executed late on Monday night. Acting on a tip-off, authorities set up a trap at Rajnoli Naka at around midnight, intercepting a tempo en route to Mumbai. Upon inspection, 553.6 kg of ganja was uncovered, concealed within the vehicle, which carried a fake registration plate.

The confiscated ganja, sourced from Odisha, was intended for distribution within Thane district. An FIR has been lodged against the nine arrested individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), at Kongaon police station.
