Indonesian police are currently investigating Yudi Lukito Kurniawan, a 51-year-old former militant affiliated with Al-Qaeda, for his involvement in a foiled 2015 plot to attack the Singapore Stock Exchange. Classified information suggests that the city-state was targeted due to its alliance with the United States.
Kurniawan, who was apprehended on August 21 in Gorontalo, northern Sulawesi, has been implicated in several terrorist networks over the years. In 2015, he attempted to enter Singapore by sea but was deported by immigration authorities to Batam.
Authorities seized a passport with a Yemen visa and documents highlighting Singapore's 2015 refusal of entry, as they continue to investigate Kurniawan's extensive terror-related activities across Indonesia and his connections to global jihadi movements.
