China's Growing Population: An Opportunity, Not a Threat

China's burgeoning population presents a significant opportunity rather than a threat to the United States, according to China's Ministry of Commerce. This sentiment was expressed by Vice Minister Wang Shouwen during a trade meeting held in Tianjin.

Co-chaired by U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, the discussions are the second of their kind this year and occur amid ongoing trade tensions. China's commerce ministry recently urged the U.S. to remove tariffs on Chinese products.

The Chinese ministry also stressed the importance of addressing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods and opposed trade restrictions instated under the guise of overcapacity concerns. Both sides described the talks as professional, rational, and pragmatic, focusing on policy and business issues.
