Biden's Classified Strategy Report on Ukraine Finally Reaches Congress
President Joe Biden's administration has delivered a classified report on its strategy for the Ukraine war to Congress, months after the mandated deadline. The report, part of a multibillion-dollar spending bill, outlines U.S. and allied support for Ukraine amid ongoing criticism and delays.
The Biden administration has finally sent Congress a classified strategy report on the war in Ukraine, sources revealed on Monday. This follows a lengthy delay past a June deadline established by a multibillion-dollar spending bill enacted in April. A congressional aide confirmed the report reached lawmakers, who have yet to review it. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion over two years ago, Congress has approved nearly $175 billion in aid and military assistance for Ukraine and its allies. A $95 billion supplemental spending bill passed in April allocated $61 billion specifically for Ukraine. The bill mandated a detailed strategy from the Biden administration by early June.
While Biden has backing from both Democrats and many Republicans, some GOP members have criticized restrictions on Ukraine's use of U.S. weaponry. Due to an extended delay in delivering the strategy, frustration has grown among legislators. Senator Jim Risch recently emphasized the need for transparency and criticized the administration's failure to provide a timely strategy.
