The Supreme Court announced it will hear on September 24 the pleas challenging a Calcutta High Court order that voided the appointments of 25,753 teachers and non-teaching personnel in West Bengal's state and aided schools. The decision was delivered by a bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

The court cited the heavy caseload on the originally scheduled date as the reason for rescheduling. The Supreme Court had previously granted the parties time until August 16 to file their responses to the petitions.

The Supreme Court has been handling 33 petitions against the high court's April 22 ruling. It had temporarily granted relief to the invalidated teachers while allowing the CBI to continue its investigation into the matter, cautioning against arrests during the probe. The central issue remains whether the invalid appointments can be segregated from the overall hiring process.
