In a dramatic turn of events, Ashok Kumar, a 77-year-old German national of Indian descent, died during medical treatment after his arrest on drug trafficking charges. The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) apprehended Kumar at Indira Gandhi International Airport on July 26, following a tip-off from Interpol that led to the discovery of six kilograms of cocaine hidden in soft toys.

After five days in police custody, Kumar was moved to Tihar Jail, where he reported feeling unwell. He was subsequently taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on August 14. Despite receiving treatment, Kumar passed away on August 27.

Legal complications have ensued since his death, with Delhi Police reaching out to the German embassy to facilitate an autopsy. Kumar's advocate, Rohit Pratap Singh, shared that the family suspects foul play, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
