Kenya is fighting corruption with a heavy hand. The government is tearing down hotels, restaurants, malls etc. anything that it finds illegal. Kenya’s fight against corruption is continuing for months as excavators have been demolishing buildings across the capital city Nairobi.

A five-storey shopping mall, which was an icon in the capital city of Kenya, has been demolished. Two green excavators start tearing down the walls. This was a building that a few thought would ever come down, but the city government said it was built many years ago with a fraudulent permit over the Nairobi River, as reported by NPR.

The ongoing process has become symbolic of the Kenyan government’s vow to combat corruption. Among the buildings that have been demolished, some were standing for decades and others were in the midst of construction. Many were built on the government land by brazenly violating the law after bribing the right people. The powerful and influential people are part of the corrupt groups in Kenya.
