Brazil Supreme Court Demands Validation of Social Platform X's Legal Representative

The Brazilian Supreme Court has given social platform X, owned by Elon Musk, five days to present documents validating its new legal representative in Brazil. This follows a court order in late August demanding the platform to comply with local requirements, which led to X being temporarily blocked in the country.

The Brazilian Supreme Court has issued a five-day deadline for social platform X, owned by Elon Musk, to validate its new legal representative in the country, according to a court decision revealed on Saturday.

Lawyers for X mentioned on Friday that they had appointed a legal representative in Brazil, fulfilling one of the court's stipulations necessary for the platform to restart its operations in the country. Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes mandated the submission of commercial registries and other documents to formally confirm Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao in this role.

In late August, Brazil's top court instructed mobile and internet service providers to block X, leading to users being cut off within hours, after the platform failed to meet court demands, including appointing a legal representative. Brazilian law mandates foreign companies to have a legal representative to operate locally, who would bear legal responsibilities for the company.

X previously had a legal representative in Brazil until mid-August, when it decided to close its offices and terminate its local staff. This action followed a prolonged dispute between Musk and Moraes over X's non-compliance with court directives aimed at curbing hate speech, which Musk criticized as censorship.
