The embarrassing episode involved Gopi, a driver in the police department, and occurred on Sunday, according to police sources.

Television channels aired CCTV footage on Monday showing Gopi trying to escape from the counter without paying and liquor store employees forcibly stopping him.

Police reports indicate an argument erupted between the store employees and Gopi before he attempted the theft. Following a complaint from the employees, Gopi was charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, leading to his arrest.
