Sacred Thread Cut in a Shocking Incident

Three motorcycle-borne men mocked and cut the sacred thread of a 24-year-old named Akilesh in Palayamkottai. The incident occurred as he was on his way to a bhajan. Upon reporting to the police, a case was registered and investigations are ongoing.

In a shocking incident, three motorcycle-borne men targeted a 24-year-old man's sacred thread, mocking and cutting it, police said on Monday.

The victim, identified as Akilesh, was en route to a bhajan at the Astika Samaj run by Brahmins in Palayamkottai when the incident occurred on September 21.

Wearing a dhothi and without a shirt, Akilesh was stopped by three men who cut and discarded his sacred thread (Poonool) and mocked him, warning him not to wear it again.

Following this, Astika Samaj functionaries alongside Hindu Munnani office-bearers filed a complaint with Perumalpuram police on the same night.

Authorities have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits, police confirmed.
