Crackdown on Fake Citizenship Rackets: Four Arrested

Four individuals, including three Nepali and one Chinese national, were arrested for allegedly issuing a fake Nepali citizenship certificate to a Tibetan. The main recipient, Sonam Tamang, was earlier detained for operating a gambling racket in Nepal’s capital. Sonam paid a broker Rs. 400,000 for the counterfeit documents.

Police arrested four people on Tuesday in connection with issuing a fake Nepali citizenship certificate to a Tibetan individual. The suspects include three Nepali nationals and one Chinese national from Tibet, China's autonomous region.

According to police, the suspects produced fake documents to issue the citizenship certificate to Tibetan national Sonam Tamang. Tamang is among seven people, including an Indian and four Chinese nationals, who were arrested on Monday for allegedly running a gambling racket in Nepal's capital city.

Authorities disclosed that Sonam paid Nepali Rs. 400,000 (INR 25,025) to a Chinese broker, who, with the help of Nepali accomplices, managed to produce the counterfeit documents needed for the citizenship certificate.
