The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Palampur businessman case to add IPC sections pertaining to extortion and intentional threats to the FIR against the accused. The court also reprimanded the DGP for lapses in the investigation.
Businessman Nishant Sharma had alleged threats to him, his family, and property in his complaint. He questioned the role of former DGP Sanjay Kundu, claiming Kundu had asked him to come to Shimla, interfering in a property dispute.
Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice Jyotsna Dua Rewal observed that extortion and land grabbing allegations had not been properly investigated, pointing out serious lapses by the SIT and earlier officers. The court ordered the SIT to add sections 384 to 387 to the FIR and include a Himachal Pradesh Armed Police Battalion officer in the SIT.
