Piyush Goyal Strengthens India-Australia Economic Ties in Productive Visit to Sydney and Adelaide

During his visit to Australia from September 23-26, 2024, Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, had a series of impactful engagements focused on deepening the India-Australia bilateral relationship, particularly in the areas of business and community partnerships. On September 24, he served as the Chief Guest at the 22nd National Conference of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) in Sydney, addressing 1,100 real estate developers. Minister Goyal encouraged the real estate industry to enhance worker welfare and expand into international markets, especially Australia, while praising their contribution to India's economic growth.
Shri Goyal met with Hon. Chris Minns MP, Premier of New South Wales, at the NSW Parliament, where they discussed strengthening ties between India and NSW. A reception hosted in his honor by Parliamentary Friends of India and Australia-India Business Council (AIBC) saw participation from key NSW ministers and parliamentarians. Minister Goyal appreciated the bipartisan support for closer India-Australia relations, which bolsters the growing economic and cultural exchange.
In addition, the Minister participated in an event hosted by Asia Link Business (ALB), Australia India Institute, and KPMG, where he engaged in a fireside chat with Leigh Howard, CEO of ALB. Discussions centered on advancing cooperation in areas like renewable energy, digitization, critical minerals, and education. He was also presented with the report on 'Doing Business in India' by ALB, highlighting opportunities for Australian businesses in the Indian market.
Shri Goyal also connected with emerging leaders of Indian origin and Australian professionals during an event organized by the High Commission of India and India-Australia Business Community Alliance (IABCA). He described these success stories as a testament to the potential of India-Australia relations to benefit both nations.
Continuing his outreach, Shri Goyal engaged with members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (Australian Chapter), encouraging them to act as a vital link between India and Australia, promoting business collaboration.
In a key virtual engagement, Minister Goyal participated in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework meeting, highlighting sectors such as semiconductors, critical minerals for clean energy, and healthcare as key areas for regional cooperation.
After a successful two days in Sydney, Shri Goyal traveled to Adelaide, where he will co-chair the 19th Joint Ministerial Commission meeting with Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator The Hon Don Farrell, on September 25.
This visit reinforces the importance of India and Australia's growing partnership, particularly in trade and innovation, offering vast opportunities for mutual growth in areas like infrastructure, tourism, and technology.
