The Karnataka High Court delivered a major setback to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, dismissing his petition against Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's approval for an investigation into alleged land allotment irregularities by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The court ruled that the Governor's decision did not suffer from a lack of application of mind.
The petition questioned the legality of the Governor's sanction for investigation into the alleged improper allotment of 14 sites to the Chief Minister's wife, B M Parvathi, by MUDA. Following the court's decision, the BJP demanded Siddaramaiah's resignation, accusing the Narendra Modi-led NDA government of engaging in vendetta politics against opposition-ruled states.
However, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stood firm, denying any wrongdoing and labeling the controversy a conspiracy by the BJP and the JD(S). He stated that he would continue facing the situation politically and legally with the support of his party and state leaders. Siddaramaiah's legal team has not ruled out further legal challenges.
