Chile Unveils 2025 Budget Focused on Security and Social Services
Chile's government plans a 2.7% increase in its 2025 budget with a focus on pensions, healthcare, and national security. The proposal aims to boost police presence, raise officer pay, and invest in prisons. Resources for immunization programs will increase by 42%. The bill goes before Congress soon.
Chile's government has announced a proposed 2.7% annual increase in its 2025 budget, President Gabriel Boric stated on Sunday. The focus will be on boosting pensions, healthcare, and national security.
Boric emphasized that the budget will increase safety for Chilean citizens, dedicating $1.5 billion more to justice and security than this year's allocation. This will fund additional police presence, higher officer salaries, and improved prison investments. 'Guaranteeing your right to security is the first priority for my government,' Boric declared in a national address. He also mentioned plans to limit migration and expel unregistered migrants.
The proposal will increase funds for immunization programs by 42%, and include resources to digitize 240 sector permit processes to expedite investment. Chile's central bank projects slowing inflation and modest economic growth for the coming years. The budget, aiming for 2.6% growth, will be presented to Congress, which has 60 days to approve it.
