In a tragic series of events, Syrian refugee Raft Abmohimid nearly lost his 11-month-old son to an acid attack, two years after another son died in a Bengaluru road accident. The attack occurred on September 30 in West Delhi's Vikaspuri.
Raft Abmohimid came to India in 2016 on a student visa and met his wife in Bengaluru. Two years ago, he relocated to Delhi but recently lost his job, forcing him to camp outside the UNHCR office in Vikaspuri. He is pressing UNHCR to relocate him to another country.
The attack was sparked during a dispute involving a Sudanese national. Amidst recording the incident, Abmohimid was attacked with acid. The attack, caught on CCTV, led to the arrest of a local resident. Assistance has been extended by an NGO led by acid attack survivors.
